Cape Byron ‘The Original’ Whisky was Awarded Australia’s top whisky at the 2023 International SIP Awards. Receiving the ‘Platinum Award’ and ‘Best of Class’, for their single malt whisky.
The internationally renowned SIP Awards were created with a simple question in mind, “What about the consumer’s opinion?” The goal was to fill this void, bringing the people who regularly consume your product together to decide which brands deserve this prestigious award.
Now in its 15th year of judging, the esteemed judging panel, comprising over 310 spirit enthusiasts, assures a fair evaluation process devoid of industry bias. By eliminating industry influence, the SIP awards medals reflect public opinion on the essential characteristics of a quality spirit- aroma, taste and finish.
Cape Byron ‘The Original’ Australian Single Malt was awarded, Best Of Class for Australian Whisky and received the highest score in the category, Platinum Award. This award is reserved for premium spirits receiving the highest score, the pinnacle of the category, the highest acclaim from consumer judges.

Cape Byron Distillery’s Single Malt ‘The Original’ Whisky was launched in August 2022, this signature expression is matured exclusively in American oak ex-bourbon casks within their subtropical rainforest in the Byron Bay hinterland, NSW.
Co-created by Master distiller, Jim McEwan and Eddie Brook, with a shared passion to make a whisky that represents Cape Byron’s natural environment and captures the influence of the rainforest terroir. The only B-Corp certified Australian whisky distillery is situated at Australia’s most easterly point, the terroir is uniquely influenced by the powerful Pacific Ocean from the east and the ancient volcanic Tweed range to the west.
