Co-created by one of Scotland’s most awarded Master Distillers, Jim McEwan and Cape Byron Distillery Co-founder and distiller Eddie Brook, this Australian adaptation of a classic Scottish whisky is truly remarkable and unique to the terroir of the Byron Bay region.

“Our whisky lives and breathes the conditions of the dense subtropical rainforest here in the hinterland of Byron Bay. Our barrels have lay wait within the rainforest and take in all of the elements throughout their maturation. We have something here that is really unique”.

This a lovely single malt. Wonderful flavours and great drinking. Think Glenmorangie Nectar D’OR but soother and fuller with great carry through. A new favourite for me

An excellent whisky. This can hold its head high against anything else at this price point. Surprisingly complex with a great mouthfeel. Will definitely buy again.

Cape Byron has quickly become one of my favourite drams. Their initial release of ‘The Original’ so good I persuaded a few mates to club together and purchase a cask through the Private Cask Program (highly recommended btw).

As for this one, as with all batches of ‘The Original’ release to date, Eddie & the team have expertly crafted a ~3 year old Australian whisky that’s drinking more like a 7-8 year old Lowland Scottish whisky.

For me, on the nose there’s some lovely floral notes, tropical fruits and vanilla. On the palate and finish, spicy and continued tropical fruits. It moves to an oaky, spicy, vanilla finish with a hint of grass and a touch more oak and spice on the finish. A great lighter style whisky, and excellent value for money.
